The A556/A559 junction is located on a busy commuter route serving Northwich, Chester and Junction 19 of the M6.

Peter Duffy Limited were appointed by the client to construct the S278 highway works associated with the new business park.

Primarily the works involved the construction of a new signalised junction into the business park.

Remodelling of existing roundabout to form a traffic signalised gyratory system.

Installation of a traffic signal junction on the local highway network.

The works required extensive traffic management which required careful planning, in collaboration with the highway authority, with numerous phasing required to ensure the works could be carried out safely with minimal disruption to traffic flow.

Liaison with statutory undertakers was a key measure of success on the project with major utility diversions and lowering to accommodate the works. Crossing the site was a government pipeline, which required negotiations to carry out work within its vicinity.

Key elements of the project included earthworks, managing utility diversions, traffic management, drainage, kerbing, footways traffic signals, streetlighting and surfacing works.
