The training team at Peter Duffy Limited has begun work on an ambitious project to deliver NVQ level 2 Diplomas in Sewerage and Drainage Operations. The programme was granted £34,000 from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) under its Flexible Fund. The project is a first for a contractor in the region and will give us the ability to train and assess our sewerage operatives to obtain their level 2 diploma. Gaining this NVQ will make them eligible for a CSCS blue “Skilled Worker” card. There are three pathways to obtaining the diploma including trenchless techniques which will support our sewer rehabilitation activities and confirm operative’s competencies.
Over the next 18 months we will be developing and piloting training courses in all aspects of sewerage operations, using the most up to date training methods. Alongside this the assessment team will be working towards the qualifications that they need, and we will begin assessing our existing staff. New starters will be developed to have the right skills, knowledge and experience to do their jobs.
Our Training Manager, Jason Hine, said: “We’re very pleased to be working on this as it will help us to recognise people for the hard work and effort that they are already putting in. We’ll be checking that everyone is following the quality manual and that our operatives are able to work safely and productively while doing a quality job.”
Hayley Monksfield, Assistant Fund Manager at CITB, said: “This programme will not only formally recognise the abilities of skilled sewer liners, it will also help train up new recruits into the industry. CITB strives to assist firms with the funding and support required to equip their staff with the right skills and training, and this programme will be beneficial for the firm and the whole sector.”
